Dear SPUC supporter
Merry Christmas! I hope that you and your loved ones have a wonderful holiday and wish you all the best for 2024.
I’m sure you’ll be busy enjoying the season, but if you do have some spare moments before we’re back in touch in early January, here’s some suggestions for quick actions you can take to stand up for the most vulnerable.Â
1) Make a submission to the Public Bill Committee of the Criminal Justice Bill on Diana Johnson and Stella Creasy’s extreme abortion amendments
New Clause 1 and New Clause 2 to the Government’s Criminal Justice Bill would both decriminalise abortion – that is, remove it from the criminal law. These amendments will shortly be debated in a Public Bill Committee. This Committee has put out a call for evidence asking for views on the Criminal Justice Bill. This is an important opportunity to oppose these dangerous decriminalisation amendments. Find out more here:

2) Contact your MP about the amendments
It is vital that we all lobby our MPs to oppose these extreme and dangerous amendments. Please contact your MP, asking them to oppose these proposals, and send them SPUC’s briefing on the subject. Use our MP tool here:

3) Vote in the Mirror poll against assisted suicide
There has been a push from assisted suicide lobbyists in the last few days, which is sure to continue into the new year. A very quick action you can take is to vote no in this newspaper poll:

4) Tell the Guardian your views on assisted suicide
Another action you can take to combat calls for assisted suicide is to respond to the Guardian’s call for views on the issue. We have a briefing on the issue on our website, but personal views are the most impactful. Respond here:

5) Share this video on your social media channels
A final action we're asking you to take is to please share the below video on your social media channels, whether that be Facebook or Twitter, or even amongst direct contacts on WhatsApp or Telegram.
It is of Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg MP speaking powerfully and convincingly against assisted suicide from both moral and secular perspectives. Airing on Tuesday 19th December, it's from Rees-Mogg's 'State of the Nation' show on GB News:

Don’t worry if you can’t do all (or any!) of these at the moment – this is just to let you know what actions are available if you’re looking for them!
Thank you for all your support in 2023, and I look forward to campaigning with you in 2024!
With best wishes

PS: This is a slightly longer action, and we’ll send a dedicated email about it in the new year, but in case you were looking for it – here’s our guide to help you respond to the Government’s draft guidance on implementing buffer zones:
