I am continuing to closely monitor the ongoing public health threat of the Coronavirus, or COVID-19, and have been in daily contact with the Oregon Health Authority.
I've also been pressing the federal government to ensure that adequate resources — including increased testing capabilities, protective equipment, and medical supplies — are being made readily available so that all Oregonians can get tested and Oregon's medical community has the tools they need to keep our families and communities safe and healthy.
Early Saturday morning, I voted in support of the Families First Coronavirus Response Bill which would provide economic assistance and relief to families, workers, and small businesses impacted by these unprecedented circumstances. The bill also provides $1.2 billion in nutrition assistance for our nation's families and will ensure that states have the means to provide free and reduced-price lunch for children who need these meals while schools are closed. This legislation also ensures that COVID-19 testing is free for everyone, including the uninsured.
We need to do more to support families, health care workers, and businesses during this unprecedented time which is why the House has already begun working on a third emergency response package. I am working closely with Congressional leadership to ensure that we put forth proposals that will protect the health, economic security, and well-being of the American people.
In the meantime, you can help right now by sharing these resources on Facebook.
As this situation develops, know that I am working closely to ensure that the federal government provides all necessary resources, as well as financial assistance, to Oregonians. We need a highly coordinated response at all levels to tackle this public health threat.
More soon,
Peter
