** All these EVs and no one to buy them.
------------------------------------------------------------
Yahoo Finance ([link removed]) (12/18/23) reports: "Audi will hit the brakes on its rollout of electric car models as consumer enthusiasm wanes in the face of high prices compared to petrol models. Gernot Döllner, the boss of the Volkswagen-owned brand, said that he wants to avoid flooding dealerships and factories with the vehicles as sales slow. 'The advantage of EVs (electric vehicles) is becoming visible to consumers step by step,' Mr Döllner told Bloomberg News. Official forecasts for electric car take-up in the UK were slashed by almost half last month. Sales of new battery-powered cars were expected to grow steadily until they accounted for 67pc of the market by 2027, under a
prediction issued in March. But that figure has now been revised down to just 38pc by the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), which said the take-up of EVs has been slowing. Mr Döllner, who was an executive at upmarket stablemate Porsche, was hired in the summer to reinvigorate the mid-market brand, on which Volkswagen relies for a large chunk of its profits...It comes as electric car sales fell by the most on record last month following Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s climbdown on banning petrol models."

** "The Biden administration’s hostility toward the oil and gas industry, both in rhetoric and policy, is welldocumented. The Institute for Energy Research has chronicled dozens of actions and orders by the Biden administration that have blocked or created financial disincentives for drilling."

"It's the only way to travel for a mayor like me."

** Daily Caller ([link removed])
(12/20/23) reports: "Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spent tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars on flights in government jets while his agency has promulgated climate regulations, according to a new report by the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Inspector General. Buttigieg has spent more than $58,000 to fly in government jets since taking over as transportation secretary in 2021, according to the inspector general’s report. In that same time period, his agency has pushed climate policies designed to reduce emissions caused by the American transportation sector, including regulations that would limit consumer choice if finalized...The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a DOT sub-agency, proposed an ambitious update to fuel economy standards for cars and light-duty trucks in July that Dan Kish, a senior research fellow for the Institute for Energy Research, told the DCNF amounts to an '[electric vehicle] mandate.' On the day before Thanksgiving, the DOT
finalized a regulation that effectively requires state and local transportation agencies to establish greenhouse gas reduction targets for federally-funded roadway projects...'The climate crisis is here today, threatening Americans’ lives and livelihoods, our homes and businesses, and even the way we travel and operate our federal agencies,' Buttigieg said in October 2021."

Another banner year for world coal. Except where the nitwit politicians are killing it.

Market signals...

** Detroit Free Press ([link removed])
(12/20/23) reports: "General Motors said nearly half its Buick dealers took buyouts this year rather than invest in selling and servicing electric vehicles as the automaker's brands transition to all electric by 2030. That means GM will end 2023 with about 1,000 Buick stores nationwide, down 47% from where it started the year. Late last year, Buick said it would be asking dealers to commit a minimum investment of $300,000 to $400,000 to prepare their stores to sell and service EVs...The buyout program remains open and is voluntary. The brand plans to show its first EV next year and it will be an SUV. All future new electric nameplates will use the Electra name followed by a number. In 2020, Cadillac offered a similar buyout program for its dealers. Nationally, 170-180 of Cadillac's 870 dealers, or about 20%, took the buyouts that ranged from $300,000 to $700,000 and gave up their franchise rather than make the investment for tools, training, equipment and charging stations to sell and
service EVs, a person who's familiar with Cadillac's plan told the Free Press in December 2020."
