Our government continues to find billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars to fund war, while claiming there's not enough to meet Americans’ basic needs, including clean drinking water.

Amidst a rise in antisemitic, Islamophobic, and anti-Arab hate crimes, we also continue to see violence against Black people, Indigenous people, other people of color, and LGBTQ+ people.

Marginalized communities are feeling unheard and betrayed by their political representatives. There's still so much to do to build the true multiracial democracy we need, and to ensure our communities’ safety and well-being.

So many local and state elected officials have supported our work on securing human rights such as access to clean water, pushed back on “development” projects that push out our residents, taken on corporate polluters, and now back our demand for a permanent ceasefire.

As we head into a critical election year, we’ve got to raise money to support progressives in our movement, who are facing millions of dollars in attacks from far-right groups.

Last year in Michigan, my Rooted in Community Leadership PAC supported dozens of candidates and grassroots organizations at the state and local level―donating more than $128,000 to build progressive political power and invest directly in our communities.

We don’t need more millionaires in Congress who can self-finance their campaigns. We need regular working people who understand the needs of their constituents.

Right now, the vast majority of Americans support a ceasefire, and they don't want to see their tax dollars go to more war. Many of our communities still don't have clean water, and most families are living paycheck to paycheck, deciding between paying medical bills or putting food on the table. Many are on the brink of homelessness.

We need elected leaders who don’t take money from corporations, who represent their constituents as public servants, and who are not afraid to stand up to the unjust status quo. That’s why I created my Rooted in Community Leadership PAC―to train, support, and elect these leaders.

Last year, right-wing group AIPAC and their affiliated PACs spent about $10 million in Michigan and Pennsylvania alone, on attack ads and mailers to defeat progressive Rep. Andy Levin and to attempt to defeat me and now-freshman Rep. Summer Lee.

They spent $40 million total to defeat progressives in elections, and they’ll spend at least $100 million this year. They’ve already spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in attack ads against me, Jamaal Bowman, and Summer Lee this month.

We’ve got to counter this money from far-right donors with grassroots fundraising. That’s how we can elect more progressive leaders at the local, state, and federal level who truly represent the people and who are advocating for the changes our communities desperately need.
