Corporate greed is making housing unaffordable, and we need change.

Private equity firms are driving up the cost of single-family homes nationwide, and pushing up rents that are driving many families to the edge of financial ruin. These buyouts block the road to homeownership, forcing working families to bid against billion-dollar corporations and locking real people out of the American dream.

The latest example is a Jeff Bezos-owned investment company that poured $500 million into a venture fund to buy up single-family homes.

Ro’s bill bans private equity firms from obtaining loans backed by the Federal Housing Finance Agency and related government entities for the purchase of single-family homes.

The government needs to support real people and families looking to buy homes — not billion-dollar corporations looking to make exorbitant profits by creating artificial scarcity in the housing market.
