Friend -- "No political appetite."

That's what President Trump said when it comes to taking military-style weapons off our streets. He's wrong.

The attacks in El Paso, Dayton, Gilroy, and too many other places across America demonstrate that it's time to take action.

We do have the political appetite to do more when it comes to guns. Indeed, public surveys show time and again that a large majority of Americans want Congress to pass commonsense gun laws.

Here's a starting point of what Congress should do:

• Take military-style weapons off our streets
• Require universal background checks
• Limit ammunition clip size
• Pass a strong "red flag" law
• Permit public health research on mass shootings and how to prevent them

Sign the petition and demonstrate your appetite for safer communities.

President Trump is prone to making outlandish and false claims. Let's show him he's wrong and take a stand for common sense.

Our hearts go out to the victims of these mass shootings as well as the mothers and fathers across America who have lost loved ones to the senseless gun violence that plagues too many communities.

Preventing further tragedies will take more than just these steps, but we need to do more than just wait for the next tragedy.

Join me in sending a strong signal that the President is wrong.
