Dear John, As the board chair of FairVote Action, I have the privilege of supporting a staff which is making real change happen in the democracy reform movement. With another year coming to a close, I wanted to share a few of FairVote Action’s biggest achievements in 2023, and ask you to support our work as we fight for major wins in 2024. Under the leadership of Brian Cannon, our Advocacy team offered key support to Rank MI Vote’s campaigns to win three ranked choice voting (RCV) ballot measures in Michigan. FairVote Action was the largest single donor to the campaigns, and helped coordinate direct fundraising to bolster the efforts. All three measures passed, contributing to a sweep of RCV wins on Election Day. Our Government Affairs team, led by Ryan J. Suto, spearheaded the reintroduction of the Voter Choice Act in Congress. This important legislation allocates federal funds to support the implementation of RCV in states and localities that want it. In 2024, at least two states will vote to implement RCV statewide, Portland (OR) will use the proportional form of RCV for the first time, and up to 30 cities will push to vote on RCV adoption. Your support of FairVote Action before the year’s end will allow us to hit the ground running in 2024 and execute on our vision of making RCV the norm for all elections. Thank you for believing in this work. Onward to 2024, Tom Wathen FairVote Action Board Chair |
