As we approach the end of the year, my sister in service, Congresswoman Summer Lee and I are facing major challenges in 2024, and we need your support now more than ever.
AIPAC (the right-wing PAC funded by Republican mega-donors that supported over 100 insurrectionist members of Congress), is now targeting a group of Black and brown progressives in Congress, including Summer and I.
A few weeks back, they announced their plan to spend a staggering $100 million worth of vicious attack ads to defeat us in the 2024 elections. Why? Because we are unapologetically standing for justice, humanity, and peace in Washington.
As the first Black Congresswomen representing each of our states, Summer and I understand the struggle that under-represented communities face and the value of true solidarity. The reason that we’re both advocating for a ceasefire and human rights for Palestinians is because we understand the struggle for equality and civil rights. We’re mere generations removed from the enslavement of Black people. If people didn’t stand with our ancestors for civil rights and liberation, we would not be in the position we’re in today. So we must do the same for others, no matter where they are being oppressed. It is only when we work together that we can overcome inequality.
We've chosen to prioritize people over corporate interests, and our commitment to equal rights, freedoms, and peace has made some powerful groups very uncomfortable. We are being targeted because we are effective in bringing about change that challenges the status quo.
Our end-of-year goals are looming, and it's crucial that we finish strong. This is more than just a fundraising target—it's a statement. It's about showing those who oppose us that our resolve is unshakable and our movement is powered by people who won’t back down to big money.
We are both facing opponents bankrolled by the same Republican billionaires that bribed SCOTUS – threatening our re-election and the people-powered movement we’ve all worked so hard to build. The reality is that they have access to hundreds of millions of dollars that we, relying on the power of the people and refusing to take corporate PAC money, simply do not.
