After our undeniable win in November, our reproductive healthcare battle bubbled up again in the city of Lebanon, Ohio, where leaders are currently debating whether or not to retain its status as “a sanctuary city for the unborn.” Lebanon became a “sanctuary city” in 2021 – a city that outlaws abortion and characterizes it as a “murderous act of violence.” It’s the center of Ohio’s anti-abortion resistance.

In light of Issue 1 passing, anti-abortion activists and Republican politicians in Lebanon began seeking ways to challenge the referendum. And they’re not just trying to ban abortion, they’re trying to tie the ordinance to a law that “makes it a felony to send or receive any article or thing designed, adapted, or intended for producing abortion.”

This is absolutely unacceptable. How many times do Ohioans have to tell our leaders that we won’t go back? When we say we’re fighting to safeguard abortion rights for Ohioans, we mean for Ohioans in every corner of the state.
