Texas Governor Greg Abbott has taken a bold step in addressing the ongoing border crisis, signing three landmark measures into law during a ceremony in Brownsville. Senate Bill 3 allocates funding for essential border barrier infrastructure, aiming to bolster law enforcement efforts. Simultaneously, Senate Bill 4 criminalizes illegal entry into the state and increases penalties for human smuggling and operating stash houses.
Abbott, who ceremonially signed both bills into law, expressed frustration with the Biden administration's handling of the crisis. He criticized the decision to end effective Trump-era policies, leaving Texas to "fend for itself" against the surge of approximately 8 million people illegally crossing the border during Biden's presidency.

Highlighting the national security threat posed by the crisis, Abbott emphasized that 294 individuals on the terrorist watchlist had been apprehended while attempting to cross the border under the current administration. Drawing on constitutional authority, Abbott invoked Article One Section 10, empowering states to defend themselves when the federal government neglects border challenges.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick echoed these sentiments, urging President Biden to prioritize border security by building up the necessary infrastructure across Texas and neighboring states.
Responding to concerns about the constitutionality of Senate Bill 4, Abbott affirmed that the legislation had been crafted in a manner that could withstand legal scrutiny. When questioned about potential challenges with Mexico accepting individuals sent back under SB 4, Abbott placed responsibility on Mexico, calling out President Lopez-Obrador for allowing illegal immigrants to pass through and condemning the state of Texas for dealing with the aftermath.
Despite these bold moves, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has vowed to challenge Senate Bill 4 in court, hinting at potential protracted legal battles that could delay its implementation. Abbott, undeterred, remains resolute in his commitment to securing the Texas border and holding Mexico accountable for its role in the migration challenge facing the United States.
Act for America has called on Governors and State Lawmakers to implement this policy with over 6.5 million emails, petitions, phone calls, and social media posts. We must keep up the heat and call for all states to implement this Texas model legislation! This proves grassroots works when We the People take the driver’s seat!
