Hannah’s Insights

Key Takeaways from 2023

Hannah Wise · In her review of the past year, Hannah shares three key takeaways from Avenir Suisse’s work. Number three is busting myths, for example when it comes to self sufficiency. Number two is to focus on what needs improvement and not to rest on top rankings that Switzerland often occupies. And for number one, Hannah reminds us to take care of the relationship with our neighbours in the EU, as it influences our economy.

Other Highlights

Counterproductive Quota-Based Policy

Even for skilled workers trained with Swiss taxpayers’ money and urgently needed by the economy, high labor market barriers are set up. The restrictive third-country regime is sometimes the “price” we pay for the free movement of persons within the EU. In view of demographic developments in Europe, the Swiss quota system needs to be reformed. For Senior Fellow Patrick Leisibach, three simple measures can accomplish this.
