Friend, in a moment, I'm going to ask you to donate to help me hit my goal of reaching 10 million new Texas voters. If that's all you need to hear, you can chip in to my campaign to defeat Ted Cruz here. →

But for everyone else, I want to share why that's so important:

I was in law school when I heard that the Texas GOP had decided to trudge up a racist tactic from the Jim Crow South – and that they had managed to pass one of the most restrictive voter ID laws in the country.

My mind went instantly to Texas' voting rights champions like President Lyndon B. Johnson and Barbara Jordan. Because of their historic work, I've always believed that, of all our rights, voting is the most important. It’s fundamental to our democracy and without it, all our other rights go out the window.

There was no way I could stand idly by and let them attack our right to vote – which is why I bought a ticket back home after graduating.

I became a voting rights lawyer in Texas – something I've always compared to "being a firefighter in hell" – and I fought back against extremists like Ted Cruz who used racist conspiracy theories about "voter fraud" to disenfranchise anyone who disagrees with them.

I decided to bring this fight to Congress in 2018, when I defeated an 11-term incumbent to get to the House, where I've fought for voting rights at the federal level – but still, Ted Cruz is standing in the way, voting against critical legislation like the John Lewis Voting Rights Act in the Senate.

Friend, I'm sick and tired of far-right politicians like Ted Cruz making a mockery of our democracy. I'm running for Senate to defeat Ted Cruz and ensure that each and every Texan can count on their fundamental right to vote.

But with Texas' voter suppression laws in full effect, we're going to have to fight twice as hard for every single vote. There were nearly 10 MILLION Texas voters who didn't vote in our last election – and we need to try and reach as many of them as we can if we're going to win this thing.

That's where you come in, friend: Will you chip in $5 right now so that my team will have the resources to knock on twice as many doors, run twice as many ads, and shake twice as many hands as Ted Cruz? If we can raise $100,000 in the next two days, we'll be in a great spot to reach the 10 million voters we need. →

Together, I believe we can rebuild the democracy that Texans deserve.
