I fell in love with DC the moment I arrived. Years later, GGWash taught me why.
Growing up in the suburbs of Dallas, I didn’t understand the creative and cultural power of cities, let alone have the language to describe it. I knew highways and strip malls and single-family sprawl. GGWash taught me transit and zoning and missing middle housing.
As my relationship with the city deepened, GGWash grew with me. When a historic district debate came to my neighborhood, GGWash was my first research stop. When I finally put together my thoughts, they offered me a platform to share them. And when I started organizing my neighbors to weigh in, GGWash showed me how it was done.
That powerful combination of information and action I learned from GGWash has now become my personal theory of change. And it’s the reason I’m so happy to support this organization with my time and money.

Combining the publication with a policy team full of some of the smartest people I’ve met just makes their impact even deeper. What I love about GGWash’s advocacy work is that they don’t settle for just telling me to do something but, rather, they point me to the specific thing that will make a measurable impact. In the policy areas of transportation, housing, and land use, where disappointments often feel like the default, trusting that GGWash will lift up the key opportunities and moments to drive real change is invaluable.
Between the Metro funding crisis, an upcoming transformational Comp Plan rewrite, key elections coming, and more, the need for GGWash’s work is as strong as ever.
