** Parent’s Rights in Education
------------------------------------------------------------

Friend,

As we close out another week, I wanted to provide a few updates from my office. But first, a heartfelt thank you to all my supporters who re-elected me. I am incredibly humbled and honored by your support, and I promise to represent Southside with integrity and passion.

Your Child's Education: Your Voice Matters!

This week, I want to focus on a critical issue – your role as parents in your child's education. For generations, parents have been the guardians of their children, shaping their values and ensuring their well-being; education is a vital part of that responsibility.

Unfortunately, voices are rising that look to diminish your rights as parents. I've seen instances where parents are told they can't have a say in the curriculum or the school policies affecting their children. This isn't right!

I wholeheartedly believe that parents deserve a seat at the table regarding their child's education. You deserve to know what your child is learning, to shape their school environment, and to advocate for their needs. That's why I support legislation empowering parents to be involved in education decisions, condemn attempts to silence parental voices, and, most importantly, encourage you to attend school board meetings and raise your concerns.

Remember, without your involvement, who will stand up for your child?

My office is here to help. If you need assistance contacting your school board or understanding education policies, reach out – we're happy to assist you.

Building a Better Tomorrow, Brick by Brick: Stanley Prioritizes Student Success in 2024

We have submitted all of our bills related to K-12 education to the Clerk of the Senate for consideration. Those included are:

Senate Bill (SB) 5 aims to establish the STEM+C Competition Team Grant Program and Fund. This program will provide funding to public schools in Virginia to support the development and maintenance of extracurricular teams focused on science, technology, engineering, math, and computing (STEM+C).

Senate Bill (SB) 27 will establish a special fund and program that encourages public schools to offer industry certification programs. Schools can either reintroduce these programs in high schools or initiate them in middle schools to pique students' interest at an early age.

Lastly, I have introduced SB 28, giving individual school boards the power to decide whether cell phones and other handheld devices (such as tablets, game consoles, etc.) shall be permitted during regular school hours. While several school boards across the state have been implementing similar policies, Stanley noted, “This bill will place the policymaking decisions over electronic devices to each locality under the Dillon Rule.”

Beyond Education: Staying Connected with Us

I'm committed to year-round communication and transparency. That is why I'm launching a year-round weekly column focused on issues important to our district. My team is building a new website with enhanced features such as live-streaming of General Assembly sessions, bill tracking, easy contact forms, polls on current issues, and much more!

Remember, I'm not just your representative in Richmond during the legislative session. I'm here to serve you year-round. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions, suggestions, or concerns. Your voice matters, and I'm listening.

Together, let's build a brighter future for Southside and Virginia, where parents are empowered, children are thriving, and our communities are strong.

Thank you for your time and continued support. And I hope you and your family have a blessed and wonderful holiday.
