Our communities must be counted
[]([link removed])
On March 13, homes across the country began to receive their first invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. In the coming weeks, you should receive mail with a code to self-respond to the 2020 Census via the internet or phone. As the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread, it is critical to respond to the census to ensure our communities are receiving the necessary aid and resources in this moment of crisis.

The 2020 Census is critical to ensuring our communities and cities have the appropriate infrastructure at all times, but especially in times like these. [The Census Counts campaign]([link removed]), a collaborative campaign housed by our friends at the Leadership Conference Education Fund, is working in all 50 states, partnering with national and local organizations, and has the resources and training you need to Get Out the Count.
Here are three things you can do today:
1. TWEET about the start of the 2020 Census and [share a graphic]([link removed]). Check out [these tweets]([link removed]) as models. 2. DIRECT people to [2020Census.gov]([link removed]) to fill out their household questionnaire using their unique link. 3. JOIN A WEBINAR on [Wednesday, March 18 at 2:30pm EST]([link removed]). Our partners on the Immigration National Field Table created an [agenda]([link removed]) to move the next phase of census work in the face of COVID-19, specifically using digital organizing to replace in-person outreach & assistance. If you can’t make it but would like to see additional resources, you can find all of our materials [here]([link removed]) after the webinar.
PREPARE AND PROTECT OUR COMMUNITIES
In response to growing and existing threats to census participation, we want to lift up a few resources for our communities:
• [Linked here]([link removed]) you will find the Census Bureau's updated statement and guidance on operational changes and messaging on the impact of coronavirus on the 2020 Census; • Census Data Confidentiality Pledge: MALDEF and The Leadership Conference Education Fund developed a census confidentiality protection pledge in an effort to boost confidence among hard-to-count populations. To sign the pledge, go to: [[link removed]]([link removed]) and complete the form; • Report Census Dis-/Mis-Information: To report inaccurate, fraudulent, or concerning information about the 2020 Census, go to [censuscounts.org/report]([link removed]); • Census Protection Hotlines: The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC, Arab American Institute, and NALEO Educational Fund have set up census protection hotlines in a number of languages. Check out the [Census Protection Hotline Partner Toolkit]([link removed]) and share the flyers and graphics.
