Mitch McConnell continues to make it abundantly clear that his priority over everything, even the health of the American people, is judges. On Friday, while the House worked to pass legislation to protect the health and financial well-being of the country in the face of coronavirus, McConnell was in Kentucky with Brett Kavanaugh to celebrate the swearing-in of a judge who strongly opposes the federal government ensuring access to quality health care for millions. And now, three days later, the Senate has yet to take action on this growing health crisis. The judge was Justin Walker, who openly called the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act “indefensible.” Walker is just one of many Trump-appointed judges who have a deeply troubling record on access to health care. Trump and McConnell have tried to turn the courts into a vehicle to strip health care from hundreds of millions of people, and now more than ever we are seeing how critical affordable health care is for our country. It is outrageous that Mitch McConnell took a victory lap for confirming another anti-health care judge at a time like this. | |
