Three easy-to-remember things to know about me before 2024
[link removed]
Hi John,
Since my team and I filed to get my name on the 2024 ballot last month, we've been busy telling folks across the district about who I am and the work I've done in the Illinois Senate.
But I know we're right in the middle of the holiday season – you probably have a lot fighting for your attention. And I completely understand how, if you're focused on family or work, it can be hard to remember who I am or what I stand for.
That's why, before I ask you to pitch in to support my reelection campaign, ([link removed]) I wanted to drive my people-focused message home with three main points:
1️⃣ I'm a lifelong Chicago resident who cares about his community. I was born and raised in Hyde Park, and because my biological mom struggled with substance abuse issues, I was adopted as a baby.
Maybe it was because I was hard of hearing, or Black, but folks never thought I'd amount to much. But I was determined to prove them wrong.
2️⃣ I'm passionate about criminal justice reform and uplifting working families. My adopted parents, a social worker and a civil rights attorney, had a huge influence on the way I saw the world. They taught me the importance of helping people in your community.
Even before I stepped foot into Springfield, even before I thought about public office at all, I was a community organizer fighting for fairness, honesty, and compassion in our criminal justice system. And this year, I was proud to see the Illinois Supreme Court uphold my bill to make Illinois the first state in the country to eliminate cash bail.
3️⃣ I'm running a people-focused, people-funded campaign to continue advocating for the 13th District in the IL Senate. I believe in holding myself accountable to our residents, not big businesses or special interest groups. That's why my team and I value support from my friends and neighbors, folks like you!
John, I've got a lot more to say about why running means so much to me and my plans to continue being a strong voice for our people, but I need your help.
My team and I are relying on a strong base of grassroots support to help us through the holiday season and ensure we're prepared for 2024. Please, will you join my team with a donation today? ([link removed])

============================================================
Senator Robert Peters was born in 1985 deaf and with a massive speech impediment. His biological mother was addicted to drugs and alcohol, and his adopted mother and father were a social worker and a civil rights lawyer. He saw first hand the impact and devastation of the racist war on drugs.

As he grew up, he admired the work his father did as a civil rights and criminal defense attorney, challenging wrongdoing by the police. This combined with the effect of the criminalization of addiction, inspired his work on criminal justice reform rooted in the safety, freedom, and wellness of all people.
A defining moment for Peters was the Great Recession, as he struggled to find work and lost his parents within a year and a half of each other. He found his power through political organizing in solidarity with a variety of organizations in Chicago fighting for justice.
As a state senator, Peters has championed the end of cash bail in Illinois after years of organizing around it before becoming a Senator. This legislative session alone, Peters has passed six bills out of the Senate, as he continues to push Illinois forward as a leader in criminal justice reform and true public safety for all. He chairs the Labor Committee in the Senate and is Chair of the Senate Black Caucus. He is focused on environmental justice, racial justice, economic freedom, and public safety for all.
