Since Western troops withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021, the new Taliban regime
has struggled to maintain security and rein in terrorism. It has also imposed
devastating restrictions on women and girls. This year, the Counter Extremism
Project (CEP) has continued to report on the situation in Afghanistan, the
failures of the de facto Taliban leaders, and the terrorist threats emanating
from the region, including from the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K).

Help Support CEP’s Influential Monitoring Of Afghanistan Since The Taliban
Takeover
Since Western troops withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021, the new Taliban regime
has struggled to maintain security and rein in terrorism. It has also imposed
devastating restrictions on women and girls. This year, the Counter Extremism
Project (CEP) has continued to report on the situation in Afghanistan, the
failures of the de facto Taliban leaders, and the terrorist threats emanating
from the region, including from the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K).
CEP research closes an essential knowledge gap about the activities in the
region and educates the public and policymakers about potential larger,
long-term impacts on global security.
Our Afghanistan Terrorism Report provides a regular analysis of terrorist
activity as well as al-Qaeda and ISIS-K propaganda. CEP hosts regular webinars
with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (Foundation) (KAS) on “The Taliban’s Takeover
in Afghanistan,” bringing together respected experts to share their insights on
the state of play in the region, its impact on global terrorism, and effective
counterterrorism structures.
We rely on your donations to provide this high-quality research, which serves
as a valuable tool to the public as well as the global security community and
seeks to prevent and counter violent extremism. Your support will help us
continue this important work.
