The GOP just introduced new legislation to ban transgender girls from competing on women’s sports teams in K-12 schools. As elected officials continue to use their positions of power to attack our youth, we need your support now more than ever. |
Not only will the so-called “Save Women’s Sports Act” single out and cause harm to students, but it completely disregards that schools across the country are already affirming trans students in physical education and school sports. The bill includes all sports - including intramural sports - in its blatant attempt to push transgender students back into the closet. This shows that, once again, the GOP prioritizes its extreme political agenda over the safety and wellness of LGBTQ+ youth.
Despite right-wing extremists’ baseless claims that transgender girls are a threat to women’s sports, research shows that trans-inclusive policies have no negative effect on girls’ sports participation and that exclusionary policies actually diminish overall participation in women’s sports, particularly among students of color.
This radical bill overreaches by threatening to pull all federal funds from schools that don’t reject trans students - cynically using the futures of millions of children as a bargaining chip in the far-right’s culture war. |
