I’m reaching out because I need to ask a favor of you today. The truth is I really, really don’t like asking people for money. So I’m doing this myself to make clear just how important it is right now.

We’re coming up on our final FEC deadline of the year. After it happens, my campaign is required to file an official report showing how much we raised and how many people contributed.

These reports get picked apart by potential opponents, the press and corporate interests — like the gun lobby and Big Pharma. My campaign is going to get judged and compared to others by Republicans and pundits. They’re looking to see who is putting in the work and has the resources — and who is phoning it in and leaving themselves vulnerable.

The truth is I’ve put us at a disadvantage too. I made the decision not to take any PAC or corporate money because I believe this money is a corrosive force on our politics. But doing so means I’ve sacrificed millions of dollars that will be in almost every other member of Congress’ reports. That’s what my campaign is going to be compared to.

So I need to lean on you for support to show that our people-powered campaign is ready for anything. We can prove that doing it this way isn’t just the right thing to do but it makes our progressive movement even stronger.

Look, I know you probably did not expect to make a contribution to my re-election when you woke up this morning, but if you believe that people power is the right way to run a campaign, then I need you to have my back.

Please contribute whatever you can ahead of our official FEC deadline. I would not ask if your support didn’t truly make a difference for my campaign and the fights ahead of us in Washington.

Senate races are just expensive, and I don’t take my reelection for granted. I’m going to work day in and day out to earn every dollar and every vote. But I cannot do this alone.

Thank you in advance for your consideration. I know people cannot give every time I ask, and I do not expect that in the slightest. What I need is for people to consider giving just a little bit when it makes sense for their budget.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
