Folks, I was going through some old photo albums and found this great photo!

This was taken back when it was just my mom, dad, brothers and I trying to make a life in rural Maryland. We didn’t know it at the time but years later, our family would go through the hardships of bankruptcy and losing our home. As difficult as those things were, they taught me the value of community and hard work.

Those experiences motivated me to start my own business and give back to the community by providing good, well-deserved work benefits and opportunities. They also pushed me to dedicate my life to public service – first as a Congressman and now, hopefully, with your help, as a U.S. Senator.
