John, New York City Public Schools just closed down today for at least five weeks. As a working mom with a son in middle school, I’ll have to start making some big changes in the way I balance my job responsibilities during a citywide shutdown while taking care of my son when he’s home. Still, I am one of the lucky ones — I get to work on a team that respects moms and gives us the space and flexibility to manage our lives, no matter what happens. As COVID-19 spreads throughout the country, many workers who can't afford to stay home will not be paid. Small businesses will struggle to stay open. Healthcare workers on the front lines of this pandemic will risk their health and well-being. The threat of COVID-19 is forcing all of us to adapt to changes at home... and be responsive to changes in the way we work. Our campaign takes public health very seriously. As we switch gears from frequent one-on-one conversations with our neighbors to virtual meetings and online communications, we have to envision entirely new ways of connecting with our community that are just as meaningful as face-to-face interactions. Our community needs each other now more than ever. Please stay safe. Wash your hands frequently, practice social distancing, and take good care of each other. Sincerely, |
