Friends -
The tragedies that played out in my hometown of El Paso, Texas, on Saturday morning, and then 13 hours later in Dayton, Ohio, were not random in nature, nor can we treat them as unexpected.
Both the El Paso and the Dayton shooters appear to have been motivated by hatred, and in the case of El Paso, racism and xenophobia.
Contrary to what many Republican politicians are quick to suggest, this isn't a problem of video games or the internet.
We know how to address this crisis. Virtually every other country on Earth has figured it out. And these solutions enjoy nearly unanimous support from people in our own country! Now we just need Congress to step up.
That's why we launched this 72-hour Emergency Fundraising Drive. The deadline ends tonight at midnight so any last minute support you can give would be a major help.
Can you make a $3 donation to our 72-hour Emergency Fundraising Drive? Every dollar you donate will go towards our efforts to pressure Mitch McConnell to hold a debate and vote on universal background checks in the Senate.

The difference between the United States and other developed countries, the reason for all of this pain and suffering, is tragically simple -- in America we have allowed the gun manufacturers to write our laws.
We must demand that the Senate come back in session and take action. Demand that our senators stand up for safer gun laws like universal background checks.
America needs leaders with the courage to build a safer future for every family in our country.
Any support you can give today puts us one step closer to passing laws that will save lives.
All my best,
Peter Ambler
Executive Director, Giffords
