Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care

Hello,

Hospitals and health systems provide quality, life-saving care day after day, week after week, year after year. The stories that emerge from hospitals across the country are remarkable and inspiring, showing the best of humanity.

As we wrap up the year, we wanted to highlight several of these experiences that show the quality care provided by health care workers everywhere. These are the top stories shared on Coalition social media channels in 2023:

  • First, Elec had cancer. Then, just as he recovered, his mother Shawna was diagnosed, too. The Majerus family experienced two cancer battles at once -- double what any family should bear. As Elec and Shawna received physical treatment for their cancers, a grant from Sutter Health provided spiritual treatment, keeping them motivated throughout the fight. Read their story here.
  • Newborn Elizabeth Murray was diagnosed with an extremely rare brain tumor while she was still in-utero. A care team made up of fetal care specialists, neuro-oncologists, and pediatric care workers was assembled immediately at St. Louis Children's Hospital to give Elizabeth her best chance of survival. Read on here.
  • Stacee Cassidy was admitted to Saint Luke's Health System Neuroscience ICU over a year ago, after suffering a rare stroke while on a Zoom with leaders from her church group. After three brain surgeries and months of recovery, she recently returned to Saint Luke’s to thank the care team who made her second chance possible. Watch their reunion here.

These are just a few stories exemplifying the exceptional care that hospitals provide. You can find more stories on Coalition social media channels, along with updates and information on key issues, so you can stay updated in the new year.
