Jack,
I am emailing you to give an update on coronavirus as well as share some facts and tips on how to keep yourself and your loved ones healthy.
As of yesterday, there have been 34 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Wisconsin and Governor Evers has declared a public health emergency.
At this time, please be safe and know that there is no need for panic.
We know that the symptoms of COVID-19 include a fever, cough, and shortness of breath -- and we know that this respiratory illness is spread through person-to-person contact.
Here are several steps recommended by the Centers for Disease Control that you can take to prevent the spread of illness:
Clean your hands often by washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds -- especially after being in a public place, blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick -- this is an especially important step for anyone who is at a higher risk of getting sick.
If you are sick, stay home (except to get medical care).
Call your doctor before going into their office.
Wear a face mask only if you are sick.
Cover your sneeze and cough -- and wash your hands after.
Clean and disinfect your space and frequently touched surfaces.
Congress must pass the bill to help curb the effects of coronavirus and ensure our most vulnerable populations are not put in more danger. This means paid sick leave for all employees, protections for health workers, and free testing for all Americans.
You can stay up to date on the COVID-19 emergency at The Centers for Disease Control website.
