Are you impacted?

John – I recently spent another round of hours fighting with my insurance company for coverage of my diabetes medication.

I’m used to the dance by now:

Go to the doctor for a sign-off to justify the medication that keeps me alive.

Spend hours on the phone with the insurance company arguing with them until they approve it.

THEN go to the pharmacy to get my prescription filled.

Like I said, I know the dance, and as irritating as it is, I know I’m still one of the lucky ones.

The private health insurance industry is designed to make people give up and not file the claims they are owed. That is literally how they make their profits – by collecting premiums and denying claims.

But they are playing with people’s lives.

A photo of a pill cut in half and disintegrating into powder. At the top is the caption: “CDC: 9 million Americans Not Taking Medications as Prescribed Due to Cost.” The words “due to cost” are highlighted in red for emphasis.

A few months ago, a bombshell new report from the CDC found that at least 9 million Americans are not taking their medications properly – cutting pills, skipping doses, or simply not getting prescriptions filled – because they can’t afford it.

As a diabetic, I am of course grateful that President Biden got insulin prices capped at $35 a month for Medicare patients (a bill my opponent voted against). But...

...Insulin is only one drug. This is a problem across every part of our healthcare system. And over two-thirds of diabetics like me do not use insulin to manage our condition.

...The cap ONLY applies to Medicare, not Medicaid, not people on private insurance like I have, and not people who don’t have any insurance at all.

For someone like me, skipping doses, delaying a refill, or reducing my dosage to stretch my medications out are NOT an option.

I fear for the millions of Americans who are doing this. I pray you are not one of them, and if you find yourself in that impossible situation please know that I am committed to reigning in Big Pharma when I am elected.

I believe healthcare is a human right, and that’s what I will fight for as your Congressman. Can I count on your support today to help me FLIP this seat in ID-02?

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

My opponent takes tens of thousands of dollars from Big Pharma every election to vote NO on lowering our healthcare costs, and he’s not alone.

The healthcare industry spends hundreds of millions of dollars lobbying and donating to Congress every year – a drop in the bucket for this $4 trillion dollar industry.

Congress has to get serious about taking on Big Pharma and corporate healthcare. That’s why I won’t take a dime from Pharma PACs or any other corporate lobbyist.

As your congressman I will fight for EVERYONE’S right to affordable healthcare. But I can’t do it alone. Pitch in $100, $50, or even $25 today and let’s defeat Mike Simpson in November.

More soon,

- David

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for almost 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
