John — My name is Adriana and I have been a dedicated housecleaner in Philly for over a decade. I struggled for many years in silence when employers unjustly retaliated against me for asking for my rights.

In one office-cleaning job, a man came in to use the bathroom I was cleaning, even though it was marked ‘closed’. I complained and was fired soon after. It took me a year to find a new job.

At my next job, with a house-cleaning company, I worked a nine-hour shift with no breaks on my first day. I asked for a break and didn’t get one, but was fired at the end of the day.

I know that immigration and language barriers often silence workers like me because we worry about the consequences for our jobs and the uncertainty that follows. But NDWA has helped me to share my story openly in order to break the chains of fear and encourage my colleagues to speak out.

This is where your support comes in. We need allies like you, John, to stand with us. Your donation can make a real difference in the lives of domestic workers facing retaliation and injustice.

Every dollar donated from TODAY until December 22 will be DOUBLED, up to our goal of $7,000.

It's not easy to speak up, but we must all use our voices to bring about much-needed change and to fight injustice.

Earlier this year, I represented housecleaners and shared my experiences such as wage theft and excessive work without rest with the Department of Labor. Last month, the Department of Labor released sample agreements tailored for domestic workers that acknowledged many of the struggles workers like me face every day.

It is a profound honor to have my experience and voice reflected in these contracts. But, there is still so much to do to secure the rights and protections we deserve and freedom from retaliation and exploitation. And, we can’t do it alone.

We need your support to fuel our advocacy efforts and to enforce the laws and rights we’ve won. Your donation will make a real impact, allowing us to push for fair treatment, better working conditions, and protection against retaliation.
