John,
As Washington’s Commissioner of Public Lands, I know what it's like to create groundbreaking change.
Since taking office, our Department of Natural Resources has actively invested in underserved areas, prioritizing those affected by poor air and water quality and increasing temperatures. Through our efforts we are investing more than $1.6 million statewide investments to create healthier, more equitable communities.
Trees are important, especially in cities. Trees in cities provide health, employment, and climate resiliency benefits that everyone should have. With increasing temperatures, they also cool neighborhoods, which reduces heat-related illness and utility costs. But a map of tree cover that we did of our cities reveals that low-income communities and communities of color have significantly fewer trees - especially in Tacoma. This has a significant impact on the health and well-being of these communities.
Through my leadership, we are working to plant over 13 million trees in underserved neighborhoods throughout the state to ensure everyone has access to trees in their neighborhood.
Now, I'm excited to take my bold action to Congress as I run to represent Washington's 6th Congressional District. The journey ahead is crucial for the future of our state and our nation.
I have my first FEC fundraising deadline for this race on December 31, and I could use your help showing off our grassroots strength. Can I count on your help reaching my ambitious $25,000 grassroots fundraising goal by contributing $10 (or more) right now?
