You may have heard the devastating news out of Texas—our state Supreme Court overturned a lower court and ruled that a Dallas woman, Kate Cox, couldn’t receive potentially life-saving abortion care as she faced a heartbreaking nonviable pregnancy. She was forced to leave the state to get the time-sensitive care she needed to protect her health and ability to have children in the future.

I’m relieved Kate could get the abortion elsewhere when Texas failed her. But other women might not even have that option.
Four counties in Texas have passed ordinances that bar people from using local roads to drive someone out of state for an abortion. Like S.B. 8, they allow any citizen to sue a person they suspect of violating the ordinance. (How will they know why people are driving on the roads? Who knows. The confusion and the fear is the point.)
The situation in Texas is dire. Our state is ground zero in the fight for our freedoms and for the health, safety, dignity, and autonomy of women. That’s why we must pass my bill to protect the right to travel out of state for reproductive care.
While Texas is the leader, the frightening truth is that communities across the country are considering these types of ordinances prohibiting travel and turning citizens against one another. It’s shocking but not at all surprising. It’s why I introduced my bill in the first place.
The right to travel is one of our chief privileges as Americans and we must work together to protect it, as well as the health, dignity, privacy, and equality of women in Texas and across the country.

P.S. Kate’s story is more evidence of why we need to win our race in the 7th District and take back the House next year. As always, we’ll need your help to do that. Your contributions support our efforts to mobilize Texas voters for our race and key races across Texas and the country. [[link removed]]
