Hi John,

As we say goodbye to the whirlwind that was 2023, it's surreal to reflect on the cultural moments that shaped our year. Beyoncé and Taylor Swift packed stadiums around the world; we followed the SAG-AFTRA writers' and actors' strike; a Kevin James meme had us all in a chokehold; and 'The Bear' created a Christmas episode that still lives in my head rent-free. Amidst these pop culture moments, my fondest memories of 2023 are intertwined with all of the work we accomplished at When We All Vote. From registering tens of thousands of voters, to the festivals and cultural events we attended, and the relentless dedication of our volunteers and ambassadors, it's safe to say we absolutely nailed it!

In this year-end newsletter, let’s look back at some of When We All Vote’s defining moments this year.

TOP VOTING RIGHTS WINS

2023 was a big year for voting rights. Check out some of our favorite wins below!

🗳️ The Supreme Court ruled to protect our democracy in Allen v. Milligan.

🗳️ After a lengthy legal battle that lasted roughly two years, Alabama finally has a new congressional map that increases representation for Black voters.

🗳️ Pennsylvania adopted automatic voter registration. Registration increased by 54% in one month compared to the same period two years ago.

🗳️ Ohio voters showed up to protect democracy, resoundingly rejecting a ballot measure meant to take power away from the people.

🗳️ Native Health of Phoenix, Arizona, became the first Indian Health Service facility in the country to be designated a voter registration agency.

WHEN WE ALL VOTE IN THE CULTURE

You could say we had a lot of fun. See some of our favorite moments from this year!

🎉 The fits, the talent, the vibes, #CultureCon was LIT. 🔥

🎉 A time was HAD on our #HBWeCU Tour with BET! 🤩 🙌🏿 We brought information about voting and voter registration to HBCU campuses across the country this fall.

🎉 We were incredibly HYPED to shoot hoops and register voters at this year's #ComplexCon! 🏀

🎉 The Roots picnic was so much fun, and our favorite part was registering so many first-time voters! 🗳️

🎉 Long lines, closing polls, and bats? 😂 We had a ball talking all things voter turnout at this year's #AFROTECH23.

VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHTS

This year, our Ambassadors shared stories on the importance of actively engaging with When We All Vote to get our communities registered and out to vote in each and every election.

📚 So many of our volunteers make history every day, and we took the time during Black History Month to highlight some of our Black Historymakers.

📚 In celebration of Indigenous Peoples Day this year, we heard from Allie Redhorse Young on the importance of tapping into your power.

📚 During Women’s History Month, we learned why women are the backbone of When We All Vote’s volunteer base.

📚 My School Vote’s Ambassador Tommy shared with us why family and culture are central to his engagement work during AAPI Heritage Month.
