Fourteen states made it harder to vote this past year. Republicans continue to push dozens of laws that will make it harder for people to vote in future elections. Partisan gerrymandering could alter how the U.S. House swings.

These are undemocratic attacks on our freedom to vote and our democratic process. We must demand Congress step in and protect everyone’s right to vote.

Two voter protection bills that can be passed and enacted right now have been introduced in Congress: the Freedom to Vote Act (FTVA) and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA). These are two transformative pieces of legislation that together would restore and modernize the full protections of the VRA, set national standards to increase access to the ballot box, neutralize partisan and racial gerrymandering, protect our elections from interference, increase transparency in campaign finance to prevent dark money from buying our politicians, and more.
