Last Thursday was the final night of Hanukkah, when we celebrated the festival of lights. During this holiday season, we can all reflect on how we can bring light into darkness.
Every Hanukkah, we light a menorah that my grandparents buried in their front yard before they were driven from their home in Poland, forced to work in concentration camps, and survived an unimaginably terrifying experience. And yet...they did not let go of hope, and my grandmother managed to give birth to my mom in a concentration camp. My grandfather retrieved this menorah after the war and, before he died, he gave it to my family, enabling us to light it for Hanukkah and remember a remarkable story of hope, survival, and resilience.
