John, the
election of Trump was the reason I first ran for office in 2018. Like so
many Americans, I was angry, and didn’t want to just sit on the sidelines.
In 2018, I talked a lot about Donald Trump and his abhorrent policies, and
we flipped a red seat blue.
But I haven’t won two competitive re-election campaigns with that same
strategy. Trump is a dangerous threat to our democracy—that can’t be
overstated, and we must do everything we can to both hold him accountable
and ensure he never again steps foot in the White House. But our country’s
problems didn’t start or end with him. Widening inequality, a broken
healthcare system, and a climate crisis are symptoms of a system that puts
ultra-profitable corporations ahead of real people.
Getting to “better than the way things were'' isn't good enough. Because
it’s not “good enough” that huge corporations are making record profits
while more and more families can’t afford necessities.
It’s not “good enough” that my kids had to ask me if they were safe at
school after a shooting in a nearby church.
It’s not “good enough” that most Californians can’t afford to buy a home.
The elected leaders we send to Washington must be accountable to the
people they represent. And step one is getting big money out of politics,
which is why I’ve never taken a dime of corporate PAC money.
I’ll be frank, I need your help to win this race. My fundraising has
fallen behind and there are less than three months until our primary. With
our end of quarter deadline coming up on 12/31, anything you can give
today will be especially meaningful.
