Dear Friend,

We are excited to share an important update in our collective efforts to fight for clean, healthy, and abundant water for all people and the planet.

Thanks to the persistent legal action by Waterkeeper Alliance, Waterkeeper groups, and other community and conservation organizations, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed new water pollution control standards for slaughterhouses and rendering facilities.

This breakthrough stems from lawsuits we filed in 2019 and 2022, resulting in a compliance agreement promising to reduce water pollution dramatically.

Slaughterhouses and rendering plants have long been a significant source of waterway contamination in the U.S., contributing significantly to nitrogen and phosphorus pollution. The new EPA standards aim to prevent at least 100 million pounds of pollutants per year from entering our waters, impacting a substantial portion of the country's approximately 5,000 such facilities.

However, the struggle doesn't end here, and we need your help to continue this momentum. Your year-end contribution will help us uphold and strengthen these new standards, advocate for further regulatory reforms, and ensure that pollution costs are not passed on to communities and citizens.

DONATE

Thank you for joining us in this crucial fight to safeguard our waterways and communities. Together, we can hold polluters accountable and ensure a future where clean water is a right for all.

To clean water,

Marc Yaggi
Chief Executive Officer
