Dear John,
For all of our passion and love for the redwoods, I find many League supporters are surprised to learn that most of the redwood forest remains unprotected.
Across the redwood range, young forests are growing back from ancient roots – and many have the potential to grow into the old-growth of tomorrow. That’s why the League’s land acquisition work is so fundamental to the delivery of our mission.
When a new opportunity to purchase and protect a forest arises, the League must act quickly – and the Redwood Land Fund is the pool we draw from in these moments of great urgency. Heading into 2024, we’re hoping to bolster these reserves for important acquisition opportunities on the horizon.
We’re thrilled and grateful to share that League donors Ken and Michelle Burkus are matching gifts up to $250,000 in memory of John Arthur Burkus, now through 12/31, to replenish the Redwood Land Fund.
Our land protection team always has potential coast redwood and giant sequoia property acquisitions within its sights. As I write to you today, the League and our partners are closely watching two important properties that may soon become available for purchase.
From all of us at the League, thank you for your support at this critical time.
We’re grateful to have you in our conservation family.
Sincerely,
Sam Hodder |
P.S. A healthy Redwood Land Fund ensures we can compete for prime redwood properties within tight deadlines. Your gift today will be MATCHED to bolster the Redwood Land Fund and protect redwood forests.
