John, Kevin McCarthy just made it official:

He officially resigned from Congress, effective December 31.

Without McCarthy in Congress, next year is already looking just a little bit better than the last — but we have to build our momentum right now to win this Senate race, flip the House, and defend the White House from Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans.

December 31 is also the final day of our FEC fundraising deadline, and with just weeks until early voting starts in my U.S. Senate primary election, we’re behind on our fundraising goals. While virtually no one in Congress will be sad to see McCarthy go, his replacement as Speaker of the House is not an improvement.

MAGA Mike Johnson served as Donald Trump’s impeachment counsel during the Senate trial in which I prosecuted Trump for presidential abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Then, Johnson engineered the GOP litigation effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election. And we cannot trust him to abide by his oath of office if Republicans are once again in the House majority on January 6, 2025.

McCarthy’s resignation is not enough — we cannot rest until we’ve defeated MAGA Republicans up and down the ballot, from keeping Donald Trump out of the White House to defending the Senate to retaking control of the House of Representatives. And we must win our Senate race in California.
