John,
I grew up the youngest of four (well, tied for the youngest—two older sisters and a twin sister I’m technically 9 minutes older than). So I probably don’t have to tell you that the Harris household wasn’t always the most peaceful, quiet place. If you’ve got siblings, you know that kids can and do argue about just about anything. But at the end of the day, we were a family. We loved each other. We might bicker, but we knew we had each others’ backs.
The Democratic Party can feel a lot like that at times.
Sometimes we disagree over policy—we’re a big tent family, and lots of us have principled disagreements about the best way to do things. Sometimes the disagreements are personal. Any time you have an organization with as many people in it as we have, you’re going to get personalities that clash and people who step on each other’s toes. But at the end of the day, we all want the same goal of making our neighbors’ lives better tomorrow than they were yesterday, and we all pull together to try to get there.
And if you want a pretty good example of that, well, look no further than the endorsements page on my website [[link removed]] .
Out of all the statewide Democrats running in North Carolina this year, probably only Josh Stein has more endorsements. Looking at the list from Congress all the way down to School Board, I’ve got just about 160 current & former elected officials backing my campaign, and frankly? Some of them wouldn’t agree on anything if their lives depended on it.
Except, here they all are, standing shoulder to shoulder because they all trust me to be our state’s next Treasurer, and they know that I would be the best State Treasurer and our campaign has the best chance of flipping this seat next year.
They may not agree on much—but they agree that the fight ahead of us next year matters, and they’re putting their confidence in me to tackle it head-on.
I’ve built a broad coalition that stretches from one end of our state to the other. It’s multiracial, multigenerational, urban, suburban, rural, because no matter who or where you are, North Carolinians are eager for a government that invests in them.
But most of all, from Congresspeople to Soil & Water Commissioners, my coalition looks like North Carolina. And that means it’s a coalition that can win.
But it doesn’t mean anything if no one knows about it. Next year, with the race for President on the ballot, it’s already going to be hard enough to get on the airwaves— and a public poll released this week showed that even though I’m ahead in the Democratic primary, 77% of voters still have no idea who they’re voting for in this race.
Our coalition is broad, but our most critical need right now is name recognition. We need to be able to get on the airwaves, get in the papers, and get in front of people at their doors. We need to reach every voter we can if we want to secure the Democratic nomination and flip this seat in November. And to get there, I need your support. Can you chip in anything you can today to help us hit the ground running in 2024? [[link removed]] [[link removed]]

North Carolina is backing this campaign, but our victory isn’t guaranteed. With your support, though, I know that we can get there.
Talk to you soon,
Wesley Harris
