John,
In 24 hours the US government will vote on a Defense spending bill that would provide $14 billion of weapons and aid to Israel.
Could you make a quick phone call to your senator urging them to remove the Israel weapons package from the bill? -- it will take 2 minutes and could have tremendous impact.
Just call the Senate switchboard and ask to be connected to your senator. The number is: (202) 224-3121
Click here if you are unsure who your senators are
Here are some talking points – though the more personal the better:
- Over 19,000 people have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza - 10,000 of them are children.
- Approving weapon sales to Israel would make Senator X complicit in these war crimes.
- The Defense spending bill currently still includes weapons to Israel. I strongly urge Senator X to use their leverage to remove the Israel weapons package from the spending bill, or else vote no.
Here’s the original campaign email to forward to friends and family:
John,
When it comes into contact with skin, white phosphorus inflicts horrific injuries — burning victims down to the bone.
Using it against civilians is illegal under international law, but the Israeli government has used it indiscriminately against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Israel has killed almost 20,000 Palestinians, including 10,000 children since the attacks started.
Several companies are profiting from this horror, making big bucks from weapons -- including white phosphorous -- bought with our tax dollars and gifted to the Israeli government.
Thankfully, lawmakers from the US to Spain are starting to question their governments’ arms transfers to Israel. Let’s stand with them and demand an immediate suspension of these deadly exports:
Stop the attacks -- no more arms sales to Israel
Israel manufactures a lot of its own arms, but it also receives billions of dollars in weapons from many of our governments. Until Israel stops these senseless attacks on Gaza and puts an end to its egregious human rights violations against Palestinians, governments should immediately suspend these weapon deals to Israel.
From the US to the UK, Australia, Germany, Spain, and the list goes on... our leaders are complicit in this horror and are helping big weapons manufacturers like Raytheon, Boeing, and General Dynamics get rich off of war. But suspending arms deals is something our governments have done in the past when war crimes were committed -- including to Israel after previous attacks on Gaza.
More than ever we must show our leaders that people in every corner of the earth are demanding they deescalate this terrible situation -- not directly fuel it. This will only be successful if we each take a moment to speak out. Here's our chance:
Stop the attacks -- no more arms sales to Israel
