Dear John,
As the year comes to an end, many of us take the time to look back on the year that has been. When thinking of a few giraffic achievements of the GCF team and our partners in 2023, the following came to mind:
- We brought Angolan giraffe back to Angola, started our ambitious operation to repopulate giraffe in Mozambique, and expanded giraffe range in communal areas in Namibia.
- Our environmental education team reached more children than ever before in Namibia, Kenya, Uganda and across many other African countries.
- Through our expanded giraffe surveys in many countries in Africa, we have for the first-time surveys new populations including in Chad, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and many more.
- We continued to work with many African governments and NGO partners to bring giraffe on the local, national and international conservation agenda.
- We helped develop the first-ever Giraffe Conservation Strategies in Ethiopia, DRC, Malawi and Mozambique, and supported updating the National Giraffe Recovery Plan for Kenya.
- We are now GPS satellite tracking giraffe in populations that have never been researched before.
- We increased our understanding of giraffe and are now in a better position than ever before to secure their future in the wild.
- We have increased the efficiency of many of our data related procedures to make all our data more accessible and easier to share with partners.
- We have fostered strong and existing as well as forged many new exciting conservation partnerships throughout Africa.
- We are a voice for giraffe and are now supporting giraffe conservation in 20 African countries.
And these are just a few highlights - there is so much more happening, so please have a look at our website for more details.
May this holiday season be full of happy times for you, your family and friends and our GCF family wishes you and your loved ones peace, health, happiness, and prosperity in the coming year.
Thank you for standing tall for giraffe with us.
–Team GCF
