My primary concern right now is the health and safety of our families and
communities. So I wanted to share a quick update on the steps we’ve taken
in Congress and as part of our campaign to respond to COVID-19.

Over the last few weeks, our team has been working with our community
partners and folks at every level of government.

One of the most important things we can all do right now is practice
social distancing and stay home. This is about protecting our collective
public health - [ [link removed] ]read more from local public health experts here about
why social distancing is urgent and will save lives.

We are encouraging mutual aid organizing - please check in on elderly
relatives and neighbors by phone and lend a helping hand to those who are
most vulnerable.

In terms of federal response, Congress is working hard to address the
gaps. Last week we passed two major funding packages to provide aid to
states and cities across the country.

The Families First COVID-19 Response Act, guarantees free coronavirus
testing, secures paid emergency leave, enhances Unemployment Insurance,
strengthens food security initiatives, and increases federal Medicaid
funding to states.

But we have to continue to push for a more robust response at every level
of government. I am advocating firmly to fully fund our Community Health
Centers on the front lines of this crisis, ensure our undocumented and
uninsured neighbors don’t face barriers to healthcare, demand COVID-19
protection and prevention plans for the incarcerated, suspend all student
loan and utility collections, and demand that no one in Massachusetts is
evicted during this crisis.

In our own campaign for re-election, we’ve suspended day to day activities
like signature gathering to protect the health of volunteers and the
general public, and we are replacing in-person events with virtual
options.

Conditions are changing quickly, and we need everyone to help protect the
health and safety of all of our communities. If you’re looking for more
information and best practices, please follow our social media accounts
