The Supreme Court is officially taking up a case that could severely restrict access to mifepristone, a safe and effective abortion medication. Mifepristone accounts for more than half of abortions in the country. But this Supreme Court decision could make its availability sparse, even in states like New Mexico where abortion is legal. That’s why I just introduced a resolution supporting access to medication abortion. I trust the FDA’s decades-spanning approval of mifepristone as a safe medication, and I will fight to pass medication abortion policies grounded in science.
This is just the latest attack on reproductive rights since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. In fact, the Alliance Defending Freedom — a right-wing group that played a key role in the end of Roe — is also behind this case. I’m a mechanical engineer. I believe we should follow recommendations backed by science — not ultraconservative groups — when it comes to access to medication.
Thank you for speaking out. — Martin |
