This is a historic case – and one we took legal action in support of because we agree that Trump’s leading role in inciting the insurrection on January 6, 2021 means he should never be allowed to hold office again. [2]
It’s a sad but unavoidable reality that this action is absolutely necessary to protect our elections from chaos and violence. But now, we stand with our partners at Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) in celebrating this unprecedented win.
John, here’s what’s next: Trump is sure to appeal this case to the U.S. Supreme Court before it takes effect – as other states grapple with this very same constitutional question: is a former President above the law?
Either way, this case will have major historical consequences – and a victory here would mean decisively rejecting these new attempts to turn our country into a dictatorship. But those high stakes also make the consequences of defeat something I urgently need your help to stop.
