Michael's priority public lands bill just passed a key Senate hurdle! We're closer than ever before to protecting over 400,000 acres of public lands in Colorado.
Last year, Michael convinced President Biden to establish the Camp Hale-Continental Divide National Monument, the first national monument of his administration. The monument protects over 53,000 acres for wildlife and outdoor recreation and memorializes a critical piece of Colorado’s history. It was a public lands victory that Michael fought hard to make a reality.
This May, Michael reintroduced the CORE Act — a bill that would protect almost 400,000 additional acres around the Camp Hale-Continental Divide National Monument and across Colorado.
Michael brought together public officials, conservationists, sportsmen, wildlife advocates, Tribes, and business leaders to write the CORE Act. The result is a bill that’s a win-win for Coloradans.
The CORE Act helps safeguard existing public lands and creates new areas for use for generations to come. It means more options for hikers, backpackers, and mountain bikers — which means more good-paying jobs and stronger economies in rural areas of Colorado.
Last week, the CORE Act passed a key Senate hurdle, bringing it one step closer to becoming law. Now, it’s up to us to build on this momentum.
