Caraveo had served in the Colorado State House and worked as a pediatrician before winning her race for Congress against Republican Barbara Kirkmeyer, an extremist who once advocated for a bonkers plan for parts of Colorado to secede from the state and form their own union. Rep. Caraveo—Colorado's first Latina member of Congress—has built a record in Congress as a pragmatic Democrat who is more focused on her constituents' needs than scoring points in Washington.
