Universities need to create spaces where students can cross boundaries, open up, tell their stories and be heard.

Dear Friend,
American campuses are in crisis. Presidents have been fired, professors disciplined, and organizations suspended. Students, faculty, and alumni voice alarm that the universities they know and love have been turned into hostile battlegrounds with surging antisemitism and Islamophobia and a failure to ensure an open, equitable environment for all.
PEN America has witnessed these tensions brewing over not just months but years, and has been at the forefront of organizations providing concrete analysis, advice and support to universities seeking to uphold their responsibility to be open to all people and all ideas. We are seeing a surge in demand for our work, with college presidents, provosts, and department heads reaching out daily for guidance, trainings, and summits to rebuild a culture of healthy civil discourse.

The current crisis on college campuses demands a robust approach where free speech can flourish in a diverse, pluralistic society. Help PEN America expand our work educating and partnering with campuses across the country so that we can meet the demands of this moment.
Thank you for your support,
PEN America
