Friends,
This week, the Senate is continuing to debate a supplemental military aid package to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan.
I'm writing because we don't yet have your name on our petition supporting the Arms Accountability Amendment to that package.
J Street has been clear that a key part of our support for Israel's security should be safeguards which ensure our aid is used for legitimate security needs – and not diverted by the Netanyahu government to support settlements, annexation or other violations of international law (and of our shared values).

The amendment would ensure the US government carries out assessments on each recipient government's compliance with international law, support for humanitarian aid, and commitment to protecting civilian lives.
The measure will assist the White House as it presses the Israeli government to reduce civilian casualties and facilitate the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to families in Gaza. It will help build the broadest, most enduring base of Congressional support for vital military aid for our allies and partners.

Thank you, sincerely, for your consideration.

As Congress debates a package to deliver military assistance to Ukraine and Israel – and urgent humanitarian relief for families in Gaza – our advocacy team is asking for your support.
As we advocate for the funding – which includes Iron Dome support, humanitarian relief and additional military aid to Israel – we’re also pressing for the inclusion of a vital, common sense amendment to protect civilian lives, ensure humanitarian access and support international law.
The Arms Accountability Amendment – proposed by J Street champion Senator Chris Van Hollen – applies transparency measures and safeguards to all US aid recipients, ensuring that our government carries out assessments on each recipient government’s compliance with international law, support for humanitarian aid, and commitment to protecting civilian lives.
This is an achievable, meaningful, practical step that will protect civilian lives and ensure all US military aid aligns with our goals, interests and values. If you agree, please add your name to our petition.

To be clear: This common sense measure imposes no unique standards on any country.
Instead, it increases transparency to ensure US funding for the defense of our allies and partners is used for that purpose – decreasing the risk of it being diverted in a way which would conflict with our values, threaten the safety of civilians or undermine our shared interests.
With respect to Israel, this will help ensure our aid can only be used for legitimate security needs, and not diverted by the Netanyahu government to support settlements, annexation or other violations of international law. It will assist the White House as it presses the Israeli government to do more to facilitate the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to families in Gaza.
Friends, I hope we can count on your support. Read, sign and share the petition here >>
