Issues matter.
John,
One issue that has come up again and again on this campaign, an issue that has helped us take a lead in the polls ([link removed]) against Republican Senator Deb Fischer, is the "Right to Repair."
Farmers are frustrated - they can't repair their own equipment, and are locked into what are essentially lifetime contracts with the manufacturer. Drivers are frustrated - they can't repair their cars at independent shops, and are paying double what they used to. Consumers are frustrated - their electronics are cheap, they break within a year, and too often you have no choice but to buy another one, before it breaks. I even heard this issue on a college campus from students concerned about the sustainability of our throw-away culture.
"Right to repair" is a no-brainer, supported by over 80% of Americans in multiple public polls. And yet it's dead on arrival in DC and in state capitols across the country, because the big manufacturers have launched a full-court press to ensure that it never happens.
Politics in this country has become about the issues that split us down the middle. The issues that make activists argue on social media and donate, donate, donate. I think it should be about the issues that bring us together, that can unite working Americans around common-sense goals that make life better for most everyone.
