John,

Early in this campaign, Seth told his story of living Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) for the first time. He also encouraged others to share their own stories, and called attention to our country’s failure to properly meet the mental health needs of servicemembers and civilians alike.

Mental illness is a serious issue for Seth. It’s one of the reasons why he’s running. So, John, when Donald Trump invoked mental illness as an excuse for the actions of the shooters in El Paso and Dayton this weekend, Seth was disgusted. And so were many other Americans across the country.

The American Psychological Association condemned Trump's statements, saying, "blaming mental illness for the gun violence in our country is simplistic and inaccurate and goes against the scientific evidence currently available." More than that, 19 of 20 murderers have no mental illness diagnosis—including 4 out of 5 mass shooters. And every country in the world has people suffering from mental illness, but America is the only country that suffers from so much gun violence and so many mass shootings.

Simply put, mental illness isn’t the problem. Guns are the problem.

The truth is, Donald Trump took a staggering $21 million from the NRA during his presidential campaign alone. It should be no surprise that he’s regurgitating Republican talking points to distract from the problem at hand.

Don’t let Donald Trump use mental health to cover for his own cowardice and racism.
