Welcome to my latest newsletter. December has been cold, wet, icy and extremely busy. I have been exploring why postal deliveries in Ashford have sometimes fallen below par, as well as keeping up the pressure on the Rail Minister to try to return international services to Ashford. In the Commons I have been speaking about the King’s Speech, the Government’s legislative programme for the coming year, and the Media Bill. By contrast, I was delighted to be part of the procession for the Carnival of the Baubles, which lit up Ashford one cold Saturday night. Have a wonderful and peaceful Christmas.

** My Ashford Town Survey
------------------------------------------------------------

Tell me your priorities for Ashford town centre and let’s help make it better! Every town centre has been hit by the aftermath of Covid and the growth of online shopping. I want to support local businesses and the efforts of Ashford Borough Council to help our town centre offer what we all want.

Let me know what actions you want to see to make our town centre a better place to spend time in. Once I have all the surveys back, I will study the results and put the findings to the local bodies who are able to make the necessary changes.

Click here ([link removed]) to access the survey, it will only take 90 seconds for you to tell me what you want to make our town centre better.

** Carnival of the Baubles
------------------------------------------------------------

It was great to kick off the festive season at the Carnival of the Baubles in Ashford town centre. Thank you to Ashford College for sponsoring the event and to all those who made baubles for the procession.

** The NHS this Winter
------------------------------------------------------------

NHS England came to Parliament to share plans for what will be an incredibly busy winter. If you need urgent medical help but don’t know where to go, use 111 to get assessed and directed to the right place for you. Call, go online or use the NHS App.

** National Grid Apprenticeship Scheme
------------------------------------------------------------

Applications are now open for National Grid’s apprenticeship programme! National Grid sits at the heart of the energy system, connecting millions of individuals, households and businesses to the energy they use. They have estimated that there are 400,000 roles that need to be filled across the energy sector to achieve net zero by 2050.

This is a great opportunity for young people already passionate about tackling climate change. Apprentices will be key to filling these roles and this year, National Grid is aiming to increase its 2024 apprenticeship intake by 18%.

They are recruiting now and applications for the apprenticeship scheme will be closing in March 2024. Find out more here ([link removed]) .
