Lucy McBath and I have a lot in common. We’ve both had our lives turned upside down by gun violence.

I suffered a gunshot wound during a mass shooting in 2011. Lucy lost her son Jordan when he was senselessly shot and murdered at a gas station in 2012. Gun violence changed our lives forever.

Trust me when I say it takes an incredible amount of courage and resolve for Lucy to continue leading the fight for gun safety after suffering such a personal tragedy. She’s turned her pain into purpose on behalf of all of us.

But now, she’s facing a massive threat to her re-election campaign. Georgia Republicans have gerrymandered the district she represents in a blatant attempt to remove her from Congress. We can’t let them force her out of Congress with these cheap tactics.

It’s no coincidence that the GOP has honed in on Lucy as a target. Her advocacy to stop gun violence has made her a villain for the NRA (and the Republicans they fund).

However, she’s refused to stay silent. People who have experienced the horror of gun violence – like Lucy and myself – recognize that this work is crucial for the safety of our communities. While America is seeing a record number of shooting deaths, we can’t afford to stop pushing for laws to protect our loved ones.
